Successful flow testing completed at Catalca Gas Well, Turkey
Calgary, AB., February 19, 2013 – Emperor Oil Ltd. (TSX.V: EM) (“Emperor” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the following update from the Company’s partners Azure Resources Corporation, (“Azure”) and Merty Enerji Petrol Arama,(“Merty”), on the Catalca Natural Gas Licence (the “Catalca License”) in Turkey’s Thrace Basin. Azure reports that successful flow testing of the Catalca/Cayirlik-1 well was completed on Monday, Feb 18, 2013 with strong pressure and good production potential. Once all the official data points are received, the in-place recoverable resource can be determined and the company can release the optimized production flow rate.
The well was conditioned on February 15 and16, 2013 and Schlumberger entered the well on February 17 and perforated the 448.5-445.5m. depth interval. The well head testing equipment and other pressure measuring gauges with flare lines were installed along with the tubing assembly. The well was then put on open flow and gas was flared.
Flowing and shutting in of the well continued on 17 February and different choke sizes were installed in the gas testing unit. Each flow from the various chokes was one hour in duration. The well was then shut-in for approximately 13.5 hours for pressure build up. A further 5 hour flow was tested per choke and the well was shut in as a good gas producer. The well is approximately 3 km from a tie-in point on the national pipeline infrastructure. The Catalca Licence covers 36,429 hectares and is situated 30 km west of Istanbul in the European part of Turkey, where natural gas is currently priced at a premium to North American markets. The Thrace Basin is the most prolific gas producing basin in Turkey with more than 15 gas fields and 3 oilfields. 70 % of this basin remains unexplored.
Emperor has an earn-in agreement to obtain a 22.5 % working interest in the license from Azure; a Canadian TSX.V listed Oil & Gas exploration and development company. Merty, an established Turkish company in the domestic oil and gas industry, is the local operator.
